A.F. Gros Echezaux 2023

Echézeaux AF Gros 2023 is a Grand Cru red wine from Vosne-Romanée, drawn from the Gros family’s long-held parcel near Les Rouges du Bas. The vintage yielded fruit of fine ripeness and purity, with careful extraction to emphasise fragrance over weight. Aromas of red cherry, rose petal and sweet spice emerge with air, underpinned by a faint savoury note. The palate is supple and detailed, its tannins finely woven and acidity carrying the fruit with quiet persistence.

Critical Acclaim

92 Vinous

Matured in around 60% new oak, has a very well-defined bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, forest floor and light graphite scents. There is just a little herbaceousness in the background, with a slight caramel note emanating from the wood. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe veneer of red fruit, though there is still a touch of herbaceousness underneath. There is quite a lot of sucrosity in this Grand Cru, particularly on the finish. I probably prefer the 2022.
